About Spot

Spot is a tan & white Rat Terrier, she  was born July 3rd 1999.  She came to live with us Memorial day Weekend of the same year, she was about 8 weeks old.  I was looking for a rat terrier, and inquiring about local breeders when I walked into the local mall pet store & fell in love with her little face.  So home with me she came, I picked up my daughter (who was 7 at the time) and we went to Petco to get all the 'stuff' we would need for a happy puppy.  She was a nameless dog for a few days as my husband was away for the first part of the weekend, and when he did get home the three of us couldn't agree upon a name.  Finally we decided that the puppy had to decide, so we each put 2 names on little slips of paper and put them on the floor in front of her, and she was Spot from that moment on.

We are pretty sure that she is not a pure rat terrier, but rather some sort of rat terrier/cat mix :)   She loves nothing better than to lay down in a ray of sunshine on the floor, or better yet on her very own bay window sill and soak up the sun through the window.  She will only lay in the window if the shade is up and the kitty pillow is on the sill.

She is a little over a year old now and weighs about 10 pounds.  She has stolen our hearts as well as the heart of nearly everyone who meets her.  She loves to sit in our laps while we sit at the computer, and lay down with us when we curl up on the couch with a blanket and a bowl of popcorn.  She graduated from puppy obedience class but I think they let her pass based on cuteness rather than any real obedience, she sits and downs when she feels like it and is much more inclined to 'obey' if there is popcorn or French fries involved

Well for those of you who did not follow the 'Spot Saga' as it unfolded I will add some info here to Spot's life story.  In November of 2000 Spot snuck out the door of our house as we were leaving & ran into the street.  She was hit by a car and injured quite severely.   After much time at the emergency vet hospital in Massachusetts (TuftsVeterinary Hospital) Spot finally came back home to us the Saturday following Thanksgiving.  She now weighs in at 8.9 pounds and lost her right rear leg but has now (Jan 2000) recovered fully as far as we can tell, she is running and jumping and climbing up & downstairs as fast as ever.  She is no longer allowed to go near the door unless it is to have her leash put on to go out.
